Amanda Brugel

(February 27th, 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a secluded community in the part of Montreal that is known as the West Island. In reality, the West Island, to those who are unfamiliar with it, is a vast area that extends from Lachine to the west. Amanda Brugel is said to have been born on West Island. But this is not the truth. Brugel grew in Courtice close to Oshawa. Her first ambition was to become performing, but she simply outgrew her dancing partners. According to an article by Toronto Star, she revealed that she was 6 foot 1 inch tall. When I grew out of my males in my group, I decided to quit. Some former dancers switch into acting. In Brugel's situation, it was a suggestion by one of her drama teachers at the high school that pushed her to take the next step. Her teacher recommended her to audition in the role of Anne in the school's annual production. The teacher who suggested that she play a character in the annual school production. It was her turn to be awarded an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to take part in York University's Theater Program which she completed from the program in 2000, earning a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts. In the 20+ years since, Brugel has landed roles on over 60 plays on both screens, drawing the most attention when she landed the character of Rita in the award-winning television series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel, the only Canadian in the season 1 The Handmaid's Tale cast and was only seen on occasion, was the only Canadian.
